2009 GRASSROOTS LEADERSHIP AND LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE
Once again, thousands of Union leaders from around the country will travel
to Washington, DC to participate in one of the most important functions any
Unionist can involve themselves in. Those attending this years conference
can participate in many networking activities and advocate for their legislative agenda by presenting to their Senator or
Congressman issues that affect their profession. Leaders planning on attending this years event, should be making appointments,
reserving hotel rooms and requesting Official Time in accordance with Article
11, Section 6 and 7.
Article 11, Section 6. To present the
views of the labor organization to heads of agencies and other officials of the executive
branch of the government, the Congress, or other appropriate authorities, when such matters may affect conditions of employment of bargaining unit employees
as defined by 5 USC, Section 7103.
Article 11, Section 7. To travel to and attend training
that is mutually beneficial to the parties. The Agency at its option may pay any travel-related expenses.

President’s Training
In 1969 the AFL-CIO, under the direction of President George
Meany, founded a labor studies center to promote education and training opportunities for union leadership and rank-and-file
members. Recognizing the potential value and importance of an education and training center to the further development of
trade unionism, the Executive Council of the AFL-CIO decided to locate a suitable permanent campus for the pursuit of labor
studies. George Meany personally oversaw the purchase of a 47-acre site in suburban Silver
Spring, Maryland.
This years Presidents training will again be held at the National
Labor College on February 12-13, travel on the 11th and 14th.
This is available to Unionist, interested in attending the training. For
the new Presidents within the region, your travel, per diem, lodging expenses will be paid for through Council funds. Please
