Edward Canales is a local president at FCI Dublin (L3584). Ed joined the military at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army as a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout. His first tour of duty overseas was in Bamburg Germany where hepatrolled the East West German border during the Cold War. In 1991 Ed was deployed to Iraq for the Desert Shield / Desert Storm Campaign. Ed was assigned to Ghost Troop 2nd of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and he became partof history when he fought in one of the greatest tank battles known as the Battle of 73 Easting. Ed received several accommodations for bravery and sustained combat related injuries resulting in a 70% disability rating from the Veteran Administration.
Ed has always been a strong advocate for Veteran rights and a staunch supporter for disabled Veterans. Ed was influential in setting up the Veteran Memorial Wall at FCI Dublin. Ed was the Local President that changed the way FMLA was accepted and processed at FCI Dublin for Combat Veterans with PTSD, these Veterans with PTSD are able to take leave for flareups under the FMLA program on a regular basis without difficulty. Ed has assisted many Veterans on obtaining their disability and compensation rating from the VA. Ed is committed to working with Co-Liaison Ray Coleman to serve all of our Veterans working within the Bureau of Prisons.
