Eric Young

CPL-33 Southeast Regional Vice President

The Southeast Region is a part of the most organized union council within the AFGE Federation representing more than twenty-thousand union members. The region collectively consists of Locals in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico. Eric is just one of many experienced and competent leaders within the organization. First elected in 2007, and most recently again in 2011 by acclamation vote, RVP Young brings to the table more than 17 years of AFGE membership and experience. As the national regional vice president for the American Federation of Government Employees’ Council of Prison Locals, he encompasses a strong sense of unionism with an unflagging dedication to the Federation. Eric is one of many leaders in the region who is dedicated to serving the needs of the membership thru legislative action and in the labor management relations realm.

RVP Young’s has many roles in the Council. He is a trainer, organizer, negotiator, and lobbyist for the organization. Before becoming the Southeast RVP, he served in all local positions, culminating in services as the president of AFGE Local 501 from 2000 - 2007; where he represented more than 200 active and retired employees. Eric has bargained collective bargaining agreements, arbitrated and settled numerous cases successfully as a local and national figure. Eric continues to play a vital role nationally for the CPL organization serving as the Chair in Quarterly Labor Management Relations meetings and as co-chair of the CPD Policy Writing Committee. All accomplishments rendered in the region since his tenure began has been thru the collectively efforts of many in the Southeast Region. RVP Young is proud to serve as the resounding voice of the Locals within the region and at the national level.
