FCI Fairton, May 23, 2012 

At approximately 8:00 a.m., the institution was placed on lock down status after a gang- related fight broke out.  The Unit officer heard a commotion on the upper tier and proceeded to the area. Upon witnessing this altercation, he hit his body alarm and directed the inmates to cease and desist. The inmates were initially non-compliant, but upon the arrival of additional staff members, they eventually complied without a staff use of force. The inmates were cuffed, medically assessed, and escorted to SHU. No staff members were injured; however, one inmate sustained significant injuries to the facial area and was subsequently transported to the local hospital via ambulance. The inmate was later moved to another hospital for immediate surgery his jaw-line area.
